Good acid distribution systems in any tower are extremely important to ensure optimal working of the Sulphuric Acid plant. An acid distributor is at the heart of the drying and absorpti on tower system with the purpose of distributing acid evenly over the packing. Complete contact and mixing of gas and acid will ensure proper working of the drying and absorption towers.
In the past decade, acid piping has advanced to metallic alloys as the material of choice. This is due to the inherent advantages of alloy acid piping over conventional materials. Once installed alloy acid piping will usually last the full life of the plant with minimal maintenance. Alloy acid piping has proven itself with many installations worldwide, more than 40,000m of alloy acid piping has been installed all over the world.
Acid coolers are used for the effective transfer of heat from the acid stream to a cooling media. Each cooler is individually designed and optimized for each set of process parameters. Acid coolers are designed in collaboration with Swedish engineers to fulfill best possible design criteria.
Acid towers in the Sulphuric Acid plants have historically been M.S. brick-lined. The acid proof brick-lining is to protect M.S. shell against corrosion caused by Sulphuric Acid. The advent of corrosion resistant alloy steels over the last few decades have brought a new and advanced solution for Acid Towers and its Internals. The Alloy Towers do not require brick-lining, as the base alloy itself has a very low corrosion in Sulphuric Acid. Alloy Acid Towers are lighter, fully weldable and can be partially or fully fabricated in workshop before bringing to site, significantly reducing installation time. Tower internals such as Packing Support, Distributor and other equipment can also be fabricated from corrosion resistant alloy steel.
